Photomanipulators, I'd like a word with you.Hey. Now you know I love you guys, sometimes in a manner that borders on inappropriate...but I think it's time I were honest with you about your less-than-appealing habits. So here goes.1.) OK, here's the one I always dread complaining about, so I'm going to couch it in a way that encourages rather than scolds: If you have the talent to make a really beautiful manipulation that features a pretty model who's been outlined in a pastel color and is standing in front of a beautiful blurred background and or/ a forrest, you probably have the talent to go farther. So go farther. Stretch. Do something different. Make something surreal. Make something whimsical. I admit that I'm guilty of enjoying these sorts of manips. Some of them are so pretty they transcend their cliched nature. And I know they'll get you a crazy amount of faves. (I bust my hump eschewing--mostly--this cliche so it kinda burns my butt that folks get rewarded with such adulation for this tripe.) But, still, enough. It's be
WHERE DID MY NEW PIECE GO?Well, it looked like it was going to go viral, then the moron who uploaded the stock model informed me that she did not have permission to upload the photo. I had to delete the piece. Beware of using photos from this account: http://angie-c23.deviantart.com Apparently she just steals photos. How incredibly stupid do you have to be upload photos you don't have permission to use? I just spent hours making this piece. I'M LIVID. Um, stockers, you're not allowed to STEAL PHOTOS FROM PEOPLE. And now you've cost me time, sweat and toil FOR NOTHING.
Do you like money?A friend of mine needs a graphic made for his business. He wants a series of different sorts of buildings, with a description of his business written on one of the buildings as if its an old painted sign. This is the perfect job for the great manippers here at dA.My friend is an awesome, non-creepy person and pays generously. If any of you reading this are interested in getting in touch with him and making a bit of money, please let me know. Feel free to respond here or note me.Thanks!

DD + Print Sales + Talking a Bit about My ProcessI forgot to thank Miss Aeirmid for featuring my DD. Thank you, my dear. You made my day and my week! For whatever reason, May was a blessed month for print sales! I sold one or more of the following: I can haz fame and fortune nao? A friend asked me to explain my process a bit more re:Well, I got the idea from a couple of sources. 1.) The model. I think her messy/bruised appearance suggested a tussle. But instead of going dark, I thought it would be more fun and original to go humorous/whimsical. 2.) An incredible manipulation I saw awhile ago that featured a woman balancing on a telephone wire. I wanted to take that idea and do my own spin on it. So, there you have it: A very silly woman who picks fights with birds. And apparently loses. Hope this gives everybody a little more insight into how my manipulations come

STUPID! STUPID!Anyway, if any of you have seen these pieces, please lemme know. It's a couple angles of a really grand ivory-colored gown. The train is HUGE and it's almost round in shape. Remember Me?Hi everybody. Been a minute, hasn't it? Well, it's hard to check in much when you're taking care of an 8-month-old baby. But it breaks my heart, because I hardly have a chance to make my art and ADMIRE yours. It's interesting watching everyone evolve, get better. I swear I've seen so many of you go from artists with potential to just straight-up wunderkinds. Gosh, I hope you all keep making your gorgeous art. It inspires me more than you know.I hope I get a moment to catch my breath and catch up on all your art.Anyway, I was honored to have been asked to write an article for an issue Somerset Digital Studio (that'll be coming out in March). I hope you'll check it out.
Where the hell have I been?In short, I gave birth 2 weeks ago to a little angel. Meet my new son:I don't know when I'll be back on any sort of regular basis, but I wanted to check in and offer my profuse thanks for all the faves and comments.
Norman Rockwell, All American DeviantShare|AboutNorman Rockwell, All American DeviantBy techgnoticNorman Rockwell Tribute by SarafinconceptsFew artists have so definitively reflected the lives of average Americans as Norman Rockwell. He began his lifetime dedication to being the “America’s Illustrator” as the 19-year-old art editor for Boys’ Life, the house publication of the Boy Scouts of America. A few years later he assumed his more famous position at The Saturday Evening Post, though he never broke his ties with the Boy Scouts. His first great achievement painting everyday scenes of America in his signature hyper-realistic style was
Collection: StarsShare|AboutStarsPhotographs and paintings of stars occupy that category of things you know are so, and yet it’s not quite possible to believe. One example is radio or television “signals” traveling in “waves” through the air, only to be reassembled for your listening or viewing pleasure in your living room radio or TV. Looking at clusters of stars lighting up the night sky like massive storm clouds, it’s impossible to think of those stars, those points of light, as separate massive burning suns, even though I know it’s so. Sometimes the most powerful magic requires no deception at all. The natural universe is more mystifying in its sheer numbers than any magician’s most mind–bending sleight of hand.“I am like a falli
Collection: CreaturesShare|AboutCreaturesIn ancient tradition, Halloween was thought to be the night of the year when the realms of the living of the living and the dead came the closest together, enabling evil spirits and demons to hop over to our side to make mischief. For centuries the Church made very serious studies of what these hellacious creatures were actually thought to look like. Today, “creature imagining” is just a creative exercise and a way of having fun. Thank goodness none of our deviantART artists are drawing any of the subjects of this collection from live models. (Then again, just maybe…)“Hell is empty and all the devils are here.”– William Shakespeare
Collection: Dia de Los MuertosShare|AboutDia de los Muertos“Day of the Dead” is not the “Latin American Halloween.” On Dia de los Muertos, Mexican families visit the spirits of their dead in the cemeteries where they rest. They bring food and other gifts as part of a happy celebration of departed loved ones. Halloween originated with the fear of the sprits of the dead visiting the living so food was offered as bribery for the spirits to do no harm. It was a scary once–a–year intersection of the world of the living with the world of the dead. Day of the Dead continues to be a celebration as antidote to mourning the passing over of loved ones. It is about the indestructible bonds of family being forever connected—even in the next world.“Entre flore

Clive Barker: Return of The Dark MasterShare|AboutBy techgnoticHis Books of Blood in the 1980s established him as a premier master of the horror narrative, on an equal level or even surpassing Stephen King, who said of him;I have seen the future of horror, his name is Clive Barker.Stephen KingLike King, Barker’s works of horror have been adopted and adapted for movies, his stories becoming the basis for the Hellraiser and Candyman series and many more. Beyond his stories being used as source material, Barker has worked as screenwriter, producer, actor and director in the film world. As with Stephen King, many of Clive’s fans have found him through enjoying his horror tales
Collection: MasksShare|AboutMasksHalloween is a time for masks. Aliens, zombies, vampires and werewolves will soon walk the suburban streets in search of tasty treats. But then there is the next level of masks—the likenesses of movie stars, politicians and other celebrities with their most unflattering features exaggerated. Cheap shots, to be sure, but alibied as “satire.” We finally arrive at the “non–off–the–rack” mask–making of actual make–up artists. Here’s where the mask one chooses tells us things about the person we only thought we knew. You see, the scariest thing about masks is their very concept—of a friend or loved one, beneath the surface, not really being the person you know at all. That is a truly fearful thi
